Located just 9 miles and 2500 feet above Sandpoint is probably the best and biggest mountain you have never heard of... until recently. Schweitzer boasts two huge bowls and 3000 acres of lift serviced terrain. Schweitzer is one of North America's ten largest ski resorts. This does not even count the 4000 acres of snowcat skiing through Selkirk Powder Guides, offering one of the finest experiences in backcountry powder skiing in America.
Schweitzer’s ownership has recently invested significantly in on-mountain improvements, including two new high-speed chairlifts, expanded snow-making ability, and continuous focus on improving service levels. Already possessing the terrain and snowfall (over 300 inches per year), Schweitzer is on its way to becoming a major ski destination. The resort is continuing to enhance its four season appeal through new activities and events.
As more people discover Schweitzer, there will certainly be a continued need for more accommodations around the mountain. The existing village is quaint and charming, with two condominium buildings, a handful of restaurants and bars, and several sports shops and art galleries. Real estate plans are already developed to expand the current village with more retail, restaurant, and residential lodging.
